Why You Need To Track Your Business
Here at SELLER PSYCHOLOGY, we extensively discuss tools and tracking for your marketing business.
Why?
There are many great free and paid tools, software, and tracking systems, but how do you know which ones to use?
It depends on your business strategy and what you are trying to accomplish.
Important Things To Remember To Be Successful Online
- You must build your business on a solid foundation and know who you are going to serve and how you will help those people.
- Once you figure this out, you must have a marketing hub or sales platform, whether that is a blog, a social media platform, or a combination.
- Next, you need to know what action you are trying to get them to take—do you want them to opt into a list? Do you have products or services for them to choose from?
- Take them through a sales process or funnel, providing value and building trust.
- Methods of communication – email and social media.
- Figure out ways to introduce people to your business.
- Track your results, improve what is not working, and scale up what is working to make a profit.
- Know how to use both your time and your money most effectively.
So, what kinds of tools and tracking will you need to accomplish these goals?

Sales Funnels
Taking your prospects through a sales process is critical to online success.
Once you have advertised to them, where do you send them?
First, you would send them to a landing page with a catchy headline, offering them something of value to get them to opt-in to your list.
Once they have opted in, you take them through several steps.
Some of those steps may include pages on your sales funnel, offering them different options and products at various levels of value.
Another one of those steps is to send them messages or emails through your autoresponder.
It is important to understand the flow of these steps in a sales funnel.
For example, you might send them from an ad to a landing page (asking them to opt-in) and then possibly to a sales page (offering them something of value).
At that point, you may want to send them to an upsell (a product that costs more money but offers more value).
Then, you may want to send them to a down-sell (another product that costs slightly less).
You would want to provide them with ways to actually purchase something, such as connecting them to a shopping cart.
And of course, you want to thank them!!
Finally, you want to have a series of emails in place to begin communicating with them, establishing trust, and building a relationship.
Tools and Tracking
Did you know that Google provides you with excellent, free tools that can help you track and analyze your business every step of the way?
Not only can you find out where your traffic is coming from, but you can find out what pages they land on, how long they stay on those pages, and at what point your prospects leave (or exit) your site.
This is critically important in helping you to understand what you need to do to optimize your business. You need the best online advertising tracking software that you can find!
When someone exits your business, do they leave or respond to a CTA (call to action), opt-in to your list, or purchase something?
That last sentence is the difference between a business that is failing online and one that is succeeding.
Did you know you can TELL Google to look at and rank your pages?
Many people do not realize this. They sit around and wait for Google to find their sites.
How To Get Google To Find Your Site
But Google has a free tool where you can tell Google, “Hey, go fetch my site and let me know what I need to do to improve it!!”
As you can imagine, this could make a big difference between success and failure in your business.
But it goes even further than that.
There are also “Link Tracking” tools that can tell you which social media site is bringing you the most traffic and which particular ad or blog page those people came from!
It is critical that you track what is happening in your business. Otherwise, you are throwing darts in the dark and trying to hit a moving target.
Occasionally, you might hit that target, but for the most part, you will miss it.
It is critical to track what is working and what is not working so that you can improve what is not working and ramp up what is working so that you can profit from your business!
Retargeting With Pixels
Finally, did you know that you can place something called PIXELS on every single step of the sales process (or each page of your sales funnel) and see exactly how far along prospects are in the system you have in place?
For example, if they get to the checkout page and exit without purchasing anything, you can “follow” them around, showing them your ad repeatedly, no matter where they go.
Studies have shown that it takes an average of a few “viewings” of an offer before someone will purchase something.
In other words, the more familiar an offer becomes, the more likely they will buy.
If they clicked on your site, to begin with, they at least had some interest, so this is a highly targeted audience.
By “following” them around and trying to sell to them repeatedly, you are reaching out to a highly targeted (and interested) audience and increasing your chances of success by many times over!
This is called “RETARGETING,” a unique and recent feature in online marketing.
I’m sure you have noticed being followed around on the internet yourself.
Have you ever looked at a pair of shoes on the internet, and then for the rest of the day, you see the same shoes over and over again, no matter what you click on or where you go?
This may seem creepy to the consumer, but it is highly profitable for the marketer.
And if your prospect actually bought something from your site, you can begin to show them a series of different ads, having an opportunity to sell them something else.
